Two great chefs half way across the globe - collaborate to create an authentic epicurean feast for Sarasota diners
SARASOTA, Nov 1 -- A new month brings a new Epicurean Adventure menu to Michael’s On East, and this month’s menu has been inspired by delicious memories of a recent trip to South Africa and the collaboration of two great chefs’ half-way around the globe. Chef Craig Paterson, Executive Chef of Londolozi Game Reserve, Sabi Sands, South Africa and Chef Jamil Pineda, Executive Chef Michael’s On East worked together to create a menu that represents South African cuisine for local restaurant goers.
November’s adventure is a tiny bit different from the usual three-course, prix-fixe fare. This adventure comes with a complementary memento booklet filled with photos and recipes from the recent excursion to South Africa, and juicy info about the next expedition to South Africa in 2013. Michael’s On East’s Epicurean Adventure offers three-courses: choice of appetizers, entrees and desserts for only $29.95 per person. The reason for this particular menu was inspired by a recent adventure, when Michael and Terri Klauber took members of the Gulf Coast Connoisseur Club on a three week South African food and wine safari. Michael Klauber said, “We had such an amazing time at Londolozi. Their philosophy of providing elegant hospitality to their guests is the same that Phil Mancini and I share. I knew that we needed to bring back that same delicious flavor to our guests’ tables.” Klauber continues, “It’s like the safari fun continues and we never left.” As a part of the food and wine vacation to the African continent, the connoisseur group stayed at the exclusive Londolozi Game Reserve, Sabi Sands, South Africa. It’s one of the original game reserves in South Africa.
Chef Jamil and Chef Craig worked together to create a menu that represented the authentic dishes using the ingredients, and spices of Chef Paterson’s culture. Chef Jamil Pineda said, “I like their use of sweet and savory in the same dish, it makes it really interesting and quite memorable.”

In July of 2011, the Gulf Coast Connoisseur Club traveled to South Africa’s Londolozi Game Reserve for an amazing safari adventure. ITS OFFICIAL APRIL 27 IS MICHAEL’S ON EAST DAY!
Sarasota, April 28 – Its official, April 27th will now be known as Michael’s On East Day, as proclaimed by the Sarasota County Commissioners in honor of the restaurants 25th Anniversary, and continued contributions throughout the community. On Wednesday, April 27, 2011, Sarasota County Commissioners: Nora Patterson, Jon Thaxton, Joe Barbetta, Carolyn Mason and Christine Robinson opened their commission meeting with the special proclamation.
Now a part of Sarasota’s history, partners Michael Klauber and Phil Mancini accepted the proclamation in front of friends and family. The Sarasota culinary duo were recognized by the commissioners for their dedication in helping more than 500 nonprofit organizations throughout Sarasota County, and contributing over one million dollars through in-kind donations, contributions and partnerships.
Michael’s On East takes fine-dining to another level, offering award-winning cuisine, outstanding service, in an exceptional atmosphere.
